“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less.”

Zoe Le Conte

PhD Researcher

I am a second year PhD student at the University of Durham, researching the fraction of barred galaxies at high redshifts using JWST data and observing the evolution of bar length to try to find answers to the question, why do bars form in most disc galaxies, but not all?

I completed astronomy with a year abroad integrated Master’s degree from the University of Southampton. I studied my year abroad at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian as a visiting exchange research fellow. I focused on a single research project, where I conducted a preliminary site survey of the lunar farside to deploy a 200 km radio array.

Alongside my research, I enjoy contributing to the Astronomy community by being the postgraduate researcher student representative. I demonstrate in undergraduate galaxy workshops and work part-time as a tutor. I enjoy participating in science outreach and getting the general public to look up at the pretty stars.
